The word Janamaz (جانماز) comes from Persian — “jan” meaning soul or life, and “namaz” meaning prayer. It is the same object known in Arabic as Sajjada (سجادة), in Turkish as Seccade, in Urdu as Musalla, and in English as a prayer rug or prayer mat. In Arabic, the prayer mat is known as Sajjada, while in English the terms prayer rug, prayer mat, and Islamic prayer rug are commonly used interchangeably.
