Persian Termeh — Iran’s Most Precious Handwoven Textile

Termeh (ترمه) is one of the oldest and most revered textiles in Persian cultural history — a handwoven brocade fabric produced for over five centuries in the workshops of Yazd, Iran’s textile capital. Made on traditional hand-operated looms from a combination of wool warp threads and silk or fine wool weft, Termeh is defined by its characteristic raised pattern — botanical motifs, paisleys, and geometric arabesques that seem to emerge from the surface of the fabric rather than being printed onto it.

The weight and density of authentic Yazdi Termeh is unlike any printed or machine-woven imitation. When you hold a genuine piece, you feel the resistance of hand-twisted threads, the slight unevenness that is the signature of the handloom, and the way the colors shift slightly as the light catches the silk weft from different angles.
